Author Guest Post:

It all started with a little book called Caged.  I started reading last January and was immediately sucked in to Ruby and company's roller-coaster world of crazy. It was immediately one of my favorite books and when I discovered that I would have to wait several weeks to read the sequel, Haunted, I went into a serious form of withdrawal. I freaked out, reread my favorite scenes (especially the last!!), and even grumbled to my husband about it until at last I decided to take matters into my own hands.  Laptop in hand, I decided to do something I'd never done before.  I found the author on Facebook and sent her a message. It began something like this: "You're killin' me, Smalls!" Then she did something I never imagined--she replied to my madness.
I explained to Amber that I'd never been so captivated by a story in all my life and that if I didn't know more, I'd shrivel and die, leaving a gaping hole in the world where this crazy redhead once lived. Apparently she understood the depth of the crisis, because we basically became instafriends and she began feeding me the Caged series intravenously (aka via email). We soon discovered that we shared a common sense of humor, finished each other's sentences, and had the same favorite everything. It wasn't surprising then, that we both heard voices of characters in our heads and had a desire to write about them. Enter Amber's brilliant idea: "We should write a series together!"
When she first threw out the idea, I laughed until I turned blue.  Literally. Mostly because I thought she was kidding and partly because I was totally intimidated. I told myself there was no way in hell I was ever going to let her read anything I'd written--she was my favorite author and her writing was kickass. As fate would have it, though, I'd been working on a project that I'd started a few years back with a friend and I reluctantly let Amber take a peek.  She LOVED it. Before I knew it, we had mapped out the entire series arc and all the main characters.  Working with Amber has been a blast. I get asked all the time if it's difficult to write with another author and my answer is a definite "no."  I have loved the experience and can't wait for everyone to read Tempted by Evil and the rest of the Light and Shadow Series.
